Red Dot Design Award (best of the best)

Thousands and thousands of products are judged every year as part of the red dot design award. The international jury selects outstanding achievements, gives direction and uncovers trends. One of the most prestigious awards is the "Best of the Best" category. We, at HORNE, are proud to be offering this year's recipient of the Best of the Best for the highest design quality: Pure Black by Stelton. Designed by duo known as HolmbäckNordentoft, these stunning knives have a matte black finish for a sturdy grip and an easy clean-up. Made from one solid piece of steel, the blades of these knives morph seamlessly into the handles allowing for extremely accurate cutting. The set includes a large chef's knife, small chef's knife, a bread knife and a beautifully simplistic white magnetic strip for hanging the knives. When purchased as a set HORNE is happy to offer a 10% discount. Also make sure to check out HolmbäckNordentoft's Fuego Bioethanol Firelight (seen below).

New from Design House Stockholm

We are excited to announce that we have just released Catharina Kippel’s Cobalt series by Design House Stockholm. Cobalt-based blue pigments have been used since ancient times for jewelry and paints, and to impart a distinctive blue tint to glass and ceramics. During the 19th century and early 20th century, china from Ostindiska kompaniet, Kunglig Dansk, Gustavsberg and Rörstrand gained global reputation for its quality and design. Kippel’s Cobalt collection is made in the same tradition, with the cobalt blue designs hand-painted in three layers on slightly transparent bone china. Like all true high-quality products it will only become more beautiful with time when used. Also from Design House Stockholm are the new Timo & Timo Termo glasses. Intended for both hot and cold liquids, the Timo is a clear glass with a thicker waist to help protect your hands from burning and the Timo Termo goes one step further as the glass is equipped with an outer spiral layer of silicon. Both are sold in sets of 4 glasses (in branded gift box) and are very reasonably priced - what a lovely present for mother's day!

Teak furniture and more fans!

HORNE is really starting to gear up for warm summer weather and to help keep everyone cool and relaxed, we just released a neat fan from Stadler Form. The Charly Fan (available in floor, desk and floor stand models) has an industrial designed based on a jet aircraft turbine and packs some serious power to match.

Nothing says summer more than alfresco dining so we also are happy to announce that we released the Vendia line of Teak furniture by Skagerk. The Vendia folding chair is exceptionally well suited for city dwellers who only have small patios, balconies or kitchens. Looks just as great indoors as it does out.

Also from the line is a very attractive 3-leg bistro-style table. Teak is an incredibly durable wood that is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. This particular wood is from 30- to 50-year-old plantation-grown teak trees that is first kiln-dried for three to four weeks to eliminate cracking. This combined with teak's natural oils makes it incredibly resistant to the elements, ensuring years of outdoor use.

Fan Season

Spring is well under way and we are already starting to think about hot, sticky & humid summer days. Our favorite way to escape the heat is a quick dip in the pool with our niece and nephew but between swims we like to stay cool with the Otto Fan (above). Made from African Sapele with a high grade steel frame and components, this fan is not only beautiful but puts out some serious wind. Feet are adjustable and 3 settings allow for variable output between 583rpm and 1045rpm!

New from Stadler Form this season is the Charly Fan available in a floor, floor standing and desk version. Will be released at HORNE tomorrow so check back then.

Santa Barbara to Philly

We just got back from an absolutely inspirational trip to Santa Barbara/Montecito and are already missing beautiful California. Don't get me wrong, Philly is awesome, but there is just something about coastal California that is unparalleled on the right side of the country.

We were lucky enough to stay again at the San Ysidro Ranch (where we got married 2 years ago) and it is as amazing as ever. We visited design shops, purchased some art, met with great people and spent a lot of time working on some neat new ideas for HORNE. (Above is a picture of our favorite restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara, Bouchon.)
Philly welcomed us back with blooming trees and some decently warm spring weather.

STRiDA

STRiDA was just awarded the Best of Green Award by TREEHUGGER in the Car's & Transportation Category.

The first completely new bicycle geometry in 95 years. Inside a triangular frame of lightweight aluminum, power is transferred to the rear wheel via a silent clean Kevlar belt. Handlebars are mounted horizontally so the rider can sit comfortably upright with an excellent view of the road. The genius of the triangular frame is that it can quickly fold. In five seconds, you have a light, compact form that you can easily wheel, stow in a closet, load in your car or take on the train.
